  6. American forests and a mysterious murder in Brooklyn? Answer:
  7. the burgeoning global trade in scarce animal parts, some used
  8. for exotic medical purposes. Police think that a theft of bear
  9. gallbladders may have been behind the killing last week of Lee
  10. Haeng Gu, a Korean-born businessman who was found in his
  11. apartment with his throat slashed. Lee apparently conducted a
  12. lucrative international trade in bear parts and kept his wares
  13. at home in three freezers.

  15.     Bear gallbladders fetch about $18,000 each in Asia, where
  16. they are converted into tablet form and taken as a panacea.
  17. Conservation officials are worried that high prices for bear
  18. parts will bring an increase in illegal bear killings. Most
  19. endangered is the grizzly, of which only 1,000 are left in the
  20. continental U.S. But not only bears are taken -- sometimes
  21. customers are too. Many dealers pass off pig gallbladders as the
  22. genuine article.
